Purchase with Purpose through Greeff Love and U-turn

With every successful purchase from Greeff Christie's International Real Estate, we help our new homeowners make an impact in the lives of those experiencing homelessness in Cape Town.

Through Greeff Love, our CSI project, we’ve partnered with U-turn, an incredible NGO that equips people with the skills to overcome homelessness, journeying with them from the street to employment. When our Greeff Christie’s agents successfully conclude a sale, we provide each new homeowner with U-turn’s Mi-change vouchers, so that they can offer a helping hand to unhoused people in their new neighbourhood.

According to “The Cost of Homelessness in Cape Town” report, members of the housed public give over R280 million in cash annually to people begging on the streets. While this is wonderful and well-intentioned, cash fuels addiction, creates dependence and enables chronic homelessness, making it more difficult to successfully transition into independent employment and housing.

These vouchers, which cost R50 for a pack of four, are a cashless, universal and responsible way to provide access to essential basic needs, professional support services, rehabilitation and skills that provide a pathway out of homelessness. They can be redeemed by a recipient wherever the Mi-change sign is displayed. Voucher redemption points are situated across the Southern and Northern Suburbs, and the Southern Peninsula.

Vouchers are a kinder, more sustainable way to help as they create a culture of accountability and provide the potential for an alternative future. Recipients get immediate access to a meal, clothing, haircuts, toiletries, a shower, blankets or a shelter for the night. Professional support services like group therapy, skills, and rehabilitation are also available, and with a commitment to the programme, work opportunities as well. This comes through a work-based learnership, called “Life Change”, which lasts 19 months and nurtures an individual's personal and vocational skills, as well as focuses on relapse prevention.

We want your new home to not only signify a new journey for your family but to hopefully represent a life-changing one for more than 14 000 individuals experiencing homelessness in Cape Town.
