Whether you opt to host family, friends or a combination of both, a little end-of-year soiree can be a fun, memorable way to celebrate and ring in the new year. To make hosting simple and stress-free, we’ve got some tips to help you plan a successful New Year's Eve party at your house. DETERMINE YOUR GUEST LIST AND SEND OUT INVITATIONS Decide how many people you want to invite and make a list of all your guests and possible partners. You can design custom invitations on Canva or Photoshop and send them by email or Whatsapp. PLAN THE MENU AND DRINKS Consider the types of food and drinks you want to serve at the party. It could be as simple as homemade pizzas and easy snacks, a bring-and-braai with delicious garlic bread and salad, or if you really want to go all out, hire a caterer or get meals delivered from your favourite restaurant. Designate a bartender or make it a self-service bar but remember to have enough non-alcoholic options for those who don't drink alcohol or who are driving. SET UP THE DECORATIONS Add some festive touches to your home by adding streamers, balloons, and confetti. You can also create a New Year’s Eve or 2023 photo frame, or even set up a photo booth area with props and a fun background for guests to take pictures. PREPARE FOR ENTERTAINMENT Think about what types of activities or entertainment you want to have at the party. This could include games like 30 Seconds or Jenga, your favourite music playing in the background while you socialise, setting up a mini dancefloor with a mirror ball or even karaoke, with two mics, for the inevitable drunk duets that will follow. HAVE A PLAN FOR THE END OF THE NIGHT Consider how you want to handle the end of the night when it's time for guests to go home. Make sure to have enough designated drivers, or offer alternative transportation options, such as calling a ride-sharing service like Uber. If all else fails, make sure you have enough spare room for some guests to stay over. By following these helpful tips, you can easily host an unforgettable New Year's Eve party at your house that your guests will talk about for some time to come.
